About BlueRipple Health
This project was critical to catching and treating my own heart disease.
In 2023 I went looking for heart disease before it could find me, because it ran on both sides of my family and I was entering my forties. I was already doing everything right. I exercised daily, I ate carefully, and I stayed on top of my care, and my numbers were excellent. My total cholesterol had sat between 140 and 150 my entire adult life. By the standard math, I counted as low risk.
A few uncommon tests changed that picture. I asked my cardiologist for ApoB, Lp(a), and a coronary calcium scan, which most people never hear about. He ran a full workup and cleared me, finding a strong heart, high fitness, and normal labs. He saw no reason for concern.
One result told a different story. The calcium scan, which I had to request and pay for myself, found early plaque in my arteries. I did have heart disease, and the all-clear was wrong.
What followed was two years of asking for the next test. Each request changed the picture. A CT angiogram revealed disease in a second artery, and genetic testing showed my risk of coronary disease was twice normal, which finally explained the family history I had worried about. With each finding, my treatment grew more precise. Today my LDL and ApoB are about as low as those numbers go, and my risk of a heart attack is a fraction of what it once was.
The disease was there the whole time, and only my information changed. Catching it took no medical degree. The task took knowing which questions to ask and finding the will to ask them, even of excellent doctors who had already told me I was fine. The same system that nearly missed my disease will treat you by its defaults unless you engage it differently. BlueRipple Health exists to give you the same advantage I found, and you can read the full story.
BlueRipple Health gives you a framework for advocating for yourself. My aim is to move you from a passive recipient of whatever care you are offered to an active, informed advocate for your own health. The journey runs from undiagnosed to optimally treated.
The framework starts with honest analysis of the healthcare industry. We evaluate the evidence objectively and judge what the healthcare ecosystem actually offers across the dimensions that determine your care:
- the quality of research studies
- pharmaceuticals
- imaging tests
- medical procedures
- physicians
- hospitals
- the complexities of health insurers and healthcare legislation
Analysis alone is not enough, because evidence does not tell you what to do with it. We answer the two questions the research leaves open. We ask “so what,” which translates findings into what they mean for you, and we ask “now what,” which turns meaning into action at the moments that count.
Our portal delivers those answers in a usable form. The portal helps you make sense of the abundant information surrounding a health decision and apply it at the critical decision points, including your doctor’s appointments. Its purpose is to prepare you for those appointments so thoroughly that you can reach the best possible outcome.
The best health outcome is a partnership between you and your provider. A partnership requires two prepared participants rather than one expert and one passenger. We help you learn and prepare so that you can hold up your half of the conversation. Informed patients get better care because they engage the system more effectively.
What We Are and What We’re Not
BlueRipple Health provides healthcare ecosystem analysis, not medical advice. We map the options for preventing, diagnosing, and treating disease, we explain the evidence behind each option, and we show the forces that decide what gets recommended. Our analysis prepares you for better conversations with your doctors, and it does not replace those conversations. Healthcare decisions belong with licensed professionals who know your situation, and our job is to make sure you walk in informed.
We begin with cardiovascular disease for two reasons. Cardiovascular disease kills more people than any other condition, and its information gap is enormous. Heart disease will not be the last condition we cover, but it is the right place to begin.
